Basic rules of blackjack
Playing for the first time? No worries — keep the simple rules below in mind and you can sit at any blackjack table with confidence.
Card values
Cards from 2 to 10 are counted at face value. J, Q, K — each worth 10 points. An Ace (A) can be counted as either 1 or 11 points, whichever is more beneficial for your hand.
Card ValuesWhat is the goal?
Keep the total of your cards at 21 or as close to it as possible without going over (Bust). At the same time, your total must be higher than the dealer's.
Main GoalHit and Stand
Hit means take one more card. Stand means stay with your current hand without taking any more cards. These two decisions are the core of the game.
Core ActionsDouble Down
After receiving your first two cards, if you feel confident, double your bet and take just one additional card. Doubling down at the right moment can lead to a big win.
Aggressive StrategySplit
If you receive two cards of the same value, split them into two separate hands and play both with two bets simultaneously. Splitting is generally beneficial when you have a pair of Aces or 8s.
Card SplitNatural Blackjack
If your first two cards are an Ace + a 10-value card (10, J, Q, K), that is a "Natural Blackjack" — the highest possible hand and a chance for the top prize! If the dealer does not also have Blackjack, you win.
